NASSAU OTB – A WINNING BET FOR NASSAU COUNTY
Among the many “firsts” that Long Island boasts is our nation’s inaugural formal horse race meet. The 1665 event took place on the Hempstead Plains, giving birth to a horse racing tradition of which Nassau Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation (Nassau OTB) is proud to be an integral part.
When you think of Long Island sports and entertainment, you can’t help but reflect upon our connection to the “Sport of Kings.” Indeed, Long Island is home to Belmont Park, “The Championship Track,” which hosts the third and final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown. The Park, currently under reconstruction, has challenged the most famous racehorses on its 1 ½ mile track. A transcendent sense of horseracing royalty permeates the grounds of Belmont, evoking the spirits of Secretariat, Citation, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, and American Pharoah. At Nassau OTB, we celebrate horse racing heritage, tradition, and grandeur while bringing the excitement of pari-mutuel wagering to enthusiasts.
New York cleared the way for a new form of sports betting in 1974, creating regional off-track betting corporations. Safe and legal OTBs have offered an entertainment outlet to horse racing fans while simultaneously generating meaningful revenue for local governments. Nassau Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation began its operations in 1975, providing racing fans numerous ways to wager and enjoy the thrill and excitement of horse racing from around the globe.
In 2004, Nassau OTB made history with the opening of the Race Palace in Plainview, Long Island. The Race Palace has been the preferred destination of new and seasoned horse-players over the past 20 years. It remains a destination to watch major racing events such as the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. We invite you to visit this multi-media wagering facility. It’s a great destination for those who love horse racing and people who are simply curious about the excitement surrounding horse racing and wagering.
Nassau OTB’s operations have evolved over the past several years, including expanded simulcast offerings and wagering on tracks across the country and around the world. Nassau OTB was also one of the first simulcast operators in the State to offer internet wagering. In 2007, Nassau OTB further enhanced its wagering options, adding local restaurants, bars, and other venues through its “Fast-Track” self-service branch program. To date, there are 16 Fast-Track locations across Nassau County, with more coming online in the near future.
Nassau OTB, under the leadership of its President Joseph G. Cairo, Jr., continues to broaden its wagering and entertainment horizons. Nassau OTB is committed to providing our patrons with an exciting horse racing experience as it continues to provide benefits to the taxpayers of Nassau County.
